Pros & Cons
Pros
The “enhance” knob seems to both compress and brighten your vocal as you turn it up. It sounds as good as any mixer and the effects (both vocal and acoustic guitar) are stellar.
Yamaha silent guitar slg200s. The acoustic resonance knob is very important as my guitar has no actual body. Think of a resonance knob as externally miking the guitar.
The looper is smooth and seamless. Great for bluegrass style, laying down the rhythm and then soloing and improvising over it.
The ve-8 has a headphone jack and an auxillery in. You can set what the xlr and 1/4 outputs do and routed. Another little known feature is that it has a 20 m ohm input.
Cons
Dry signal is lifeless regardless of the quality of the mic or guitar. On the guitar section the 4 knobs make very little difference no matter what the position.
The available parameters are a joke. It's just not very user friendly. Don't feel like bringing in a professor from another planet to figure out.
Too many bells and whistles. If you just hit it once, or miss your timing, it goes automatically into overdub mode.
Highlights
Quality
The tuner function works better than other electronic tuners, and overall sound and effects quality is first rate.
The quality of the harmonies on the vocals is superb.
If you thought you could just plug your iphone into it and record your gigs with the usb out, won't happen.

Competitiveness
I was hesitant to buy the boss after not enjoying its competition, but this thing is very easy to use right out of the box.
I use the ve-8 with an hollow body electric ukulele, and a shure sm-58 microphone.
Double tap to stop the looper is a little awkward so i added on a fs-7 footswitch.

Or do not use any feedback from performing musicians while designing a product

Secondly to stop the looper you have to double tap on the button which can easily throw you off the timing

I then bought another expensive boss product fs6 thinking that might solve the issue

Even though fs6 has two switches the designers only allowed the looper stop option to be accessible via external footswitch
