The implication is that it will stand on its own but it simply doesnt when at full extension

We ended up mounting it to the deck we have it sitting on but youll definitely need some sort of anchor system to keep it from falling over

Just a heads up this is an oversized item which may need to be picked up from the carrier i had a notice that i had to pick up

This does need a proper base or weights for use it is not included

If you are using without a proper base this will not be sturdy in a slight breeze

Not commercial grade but very good if you retract when but being used
