I bought this machine when it was $500, and still am happy with the purchase.
This this little espresso machine is impressive for the price!
Around a year after spending $500 on this machine and $550 on a grinder, it has paid for itself.
You can have a $10,000 espresso machine, and it won't be worth a nickle if you don't have a good grind going in.
Competitiveness
This is similar longevity to the raggia classic and rancilio sylvia models.
I've set this machine 4" away from a hand made manual la pavoni, and it isn't even a close comparison.
I will buy another breville, but a new model unless the discontinued sells for low price.

Buy good coffee beans do not buy anything that does not tell you when is was roasted none of that use before x date is good

The machine comes with double wall pressurized filters which is sort of a 34starter34 or 34trainee34 feature some reviewers complain that the porta filters get clogged this is because you are putting too fine grounds in a filter that is pressurized requiring minimal tampering using the plastic instrument that comes with the machine

Breville sales the single and double shot single wall filters 29 those are meant to be used with finer grounds and tampered accordingly

If you want to get serious about coffee this machine will do the job no matter how much money you want to expend steps 1 2 3 are essential if you are not willing to follow them do not expend the money
