Pros & Cons
Pros
The metal all around the time control knob, measures 93. F degrees with my infrared thermometer. It is a newer version of the same model now called bcg450xl /b.
Cons
The lid for the collector quickly snaps of then the plastic collector shatters if you drop it. Tried to grind twice - no joy.
The build quality is below par. The extra fine turkish setting isn't very fine. Now it is dull again. But it has a fatal flaw.
After two products my thoughts are that breville does not engineer longevity into their products. Planned obsolescence. I object to cost-cutting production methods that force consumers to replace things because of a company's nickel-and-diming.
The grinder was expensive and it survived a scant 6 months of light duty. All it would have taken is a 15 minute investigation to restore operation to this machine. Now, i either have to send it in to the company and it isn't under warranty anymore, o... Read More
What an incredible rip-off. Sadly disappointed by the breville bcg450xl. There have got to be better grinders available, sadly.
Highlights
Quality
It has worked flawlessly for all these years and we are very satisfied with the quality and constant performance.
Works perfect, same grind every time, a bit noisy but the speed and consistency are excellent.
Used daily and worked very well for about two years without incident until the motor suddenly died.
The plastic tabs that hold the switch to the body of the grinder break and the switch gets pushed into the unit making it impos... Read More
Price
I am so glad i spent the money on it.
Replacement was about $40 directly from brevilleusa.
Er for years, in fact, when i purchased it the price was $89.
Cost per use works out to about a nickel.
Shipping
Arrived in a timely fashion and is a wonderful burr grinder.
So i sent it back & they sent me a new grinder, free of charge aside from shipping.
Packaging/appearance
Exactly as pictured and i would order from this seller again!
Good value for the money, and it came carefully packaged.
Competitiveness
I originally bought the earlier edition of this grinder, which had a manual on/off switch.
A shame that they won't support their models longer.
I also own a cuisinart burr grinder (bought it while my breville grinder exchange was going on) which, in comparison, delivers ... Read More
I can't compare it to other burr grinders but the grind is pretty consistent.
