The removable plates are solid and easy to clean. Parts are easily removable for dishwasher.
Thjs is really only a problem if trying to grill both eggs and bacon for example whenyou need a lowr temp for eggs. Great as a panini press. Cooks steaks perfect in 3 minutes.
The quality of this thing is exceptionally high. Breville makes exceptionally well made and well functioning appliances. Don't hesitate buying any breville product.
Cons
If you open the appliance up to use as a griddle - the exit hole is right in the middle. No one seems to be able to come up with a design where the heat is evenly dispersed.
The non-stick coating is a fatal flaw. After washing the backs of the plates leave behind a black powdery residue that stains hands.
