Pros

Software is strait-forward and very easy to use. The device has its own file programs or you can use the programs that apple offers. Works fine with my mac using exactscan pro.

All-in-all, i'm very happy with the scanner and it serves its purpose as a mobile unit, but the fussiness makes it necessary for me to have a flatbed scanner as a backup. Comes with it's own soft case and fits in the laptop case with no problem.

For the price, this is a definite 5-star. I just hope that it's alittle bit cheaper. Overall a good bang for your buck.

This is awesome. Mighty might. Suund really good. This scanner is amazing.

Brother customer service is excellent. It functions mostly as expected. After the 4th re-calibration it's been working fine.

Cons

Non existent instructions for use with photo's and the need to use plastic sleeves for the photo's was very frustrating. Manufacturing was faulty to begin with.

Quality

I am over-all quite happy with this product.

I was very impressed with the double sided scanning which is fast and easy.

The actual directions are included with the software so do not plug the usb into your computer.

The quality of the original pictures from that era are not that great anyway, but this scanner does a great job in rendering the copy.

Price

Exactly what was needed and at a great price!

The price was right when i bought it till i looked at the staples price and they had it for $20 less.

Packaging/appearance

I read several reviews and settled on the ds700d.

Competitiveness

So if you're looking to save $40 over its closest competitor, look no further than the brother ds700.

I just hope that it's alittle bit cheaper.

Also, the resolution becomes terrible if you attempt to scan a glossy document (such as a high-end photo or drivers license) in b&w.

For a few dollars less than the neat reciept scanner, it makes filling the scanned images much easier.
