Regarding printing i almost always only print black and white

To ensure only black ink is used you will want to set the print preferences to grayscale and the media type to plain paper

Reportedly other media types will result in the use of the color cartridges to produce more true grayscale images

Depending on the design i have no clue about these brother printers that would mean one of two things will happen1 the feed from just that color cartridge will clog and you will never be able to print that color again not a problem if you only want to print black2 the print head will clog and the printer will no longer work at all not even black printing

I especially liked the ability to create a fax setting in the setup that will allow faxes to be sent over voip lines which couldnt be done with the earlier model
