What works pretty well for me is to have the mug sitting on the counter handle at 300 mouth opening on the top at 1200 with the opening cover snapped down this is important

Hold onto the handle with your right hand and with your left hand turn the top clockwise using the snapped down opening cover as leverage while using your right hand to turn the mug counter clockwise
