I just got this a few minutes ago from amazon and i am very disappointed in this compass.
Update 1: contacted brunton and they had me ship it back for exchange.
Competitiveness
After a lot of research, this compass won out over a similarly equipped suunto compass.
Brunton makes the nicest compasses out there.
Good compass, not sure i like the design, as compared to lensatic or suunto.

Brunton’s innovation is a friction system which is supposed to work by a complicated finger press while holding thing which is also explained in various you tube how tos and reviews

After almost breaking the thing in a way i’m sure it wasn’t made to be disassembled outside the factory i figured a kitchen silicon web jar opener gripper type thing might give me a better purchase on these really tightly bonded plastic parts see photo for what i’m talking about

The compass mirror is challenging one must be mindful of the direction of movement in reading the compass whilst the mirror is too narrow for ease of use
