I should add the quality of the radio is excellent, sound is perfect.

Get a good antenna, power supply (if using it as a base station), and you’ll be happy.

8 watts output, and so far have been unable to connect with anyone except my handheld about 1 mile away.

Radio does have the roger beep function, i have seen several reviews that says it doesn't.

As a local cert team member, this is a great inexpensive radio for communications.

Yes, it was more money, but the sound quality is excellent and the user functions are amazing.

Note: you will need to buy the programming cable separately, but it's inexpensive.
