Weight

Edge Retention
Customers are highly satisfied with the edge retention of the Buck Knives 279 Folding Alpha Hunter Knife. They have reported that resharpening is not a problem and the knife holds its edge well. Some customers have had their knives for decades, attesting to its durability and longevity. However, some users mentioned minor issues with the thumb tabs obstructing slices and the need to modify or replace certain parts for improved comfort. Overall, the knife's excellent edge retention is a major selling point for customers.

They appreciate its smartly crafted design, ease of use, and sturdy construction, making it a valuable addition to their everyday carry. Highlights
Quality
The grip is outstanding and it will hold a razor-sharp edge when sharpened properly.
Sturdy, tough belt sheath (can wear both horizontally and vertically off your belt- i prefer horizontally for fast access).
This knife has been hurried in dirt, dropped in salt water, left in a musty shed, and i've chipped the blade twice.
None of this matters really, the blade if it's still true today as it was two decades ago, is a moot point.
Price
It fits all the requirements i need at an under $55 price, which is a great deal.
I do recommend buying here on amazon for the best price (or shop around).
The only reason i'm even looking at it on amazon today is to see how much it cost.
Reminds me of the sog tomcat, but at a fraction of the price.
Competitiveness
(it's done a lot by other companies and buck moved a lot of their production to china).
It stays in my tool box at work now, give it attention as needed, and it rivals a box cutter for sharpness.
