Rinsing the trays, cleaning gunk out from the filter and pump also helps maintain the filters longer - i change those monthly.
If you change the water every 3-4 days it stays mold and slime free.
The plastic always got mildew and the dogs always muddied up the bowl and of course wouldn't drink out of it.

I'm telling you, this product is worth every penny.
Filters last 2 weeks and a 4 pack is only $12, so less than $80/yr.
Value for money it okay i would recommend wait on deals but if you can't this is good.

I just bought this to replace my big plastic canister one which was really hard to keep clean
