Pros

Brought two violins-3/4 and 4/4 for myself and a younger sibling for christmas. The strings are high quality and the violin craftsmanship for a beginner's violin is high quality as well. Comes tuned, rosined, and ready to go.

The violins arrive on time and are professionally packed to prevent damage. There was a hand written itemized list to make sure everything was sent.

The case and kit that come with the violin are all you need for a starter pack. The pegs fit well and do not slip, the bridge is sturdy, the fine tuners work well and are easier to turn than i expected.

The quality of the violin is very good. The back is a solid piece, the varnish is nice, and everything seems to be well built. Haven't tried the other portland brand yet.

Cons

A bow is haired with about 13% more hair than is needed to play well. The wood is cheap and causes cracking due to the wood not being dried properly.

I found this violin to be exactly what i wanted for starting out, and i thought the price was very reasonable.

Shipping

It is a little out of tune but i expected that with the shipping.

Packaging/appearance

I'm also thrilled by the expert packaging and the fact that the violin came completely set-up.

Was already set up, they even rosined the friggin bow!

Im no expert but after reading other reviews i chose this one and its a good value for the price.
