I think some people's issue might be that they're just getting the wrong product.

So i found this cable, and it worked like a champ.

Work as intended, i have a ultra wide monitor with at 2560x1080.

I'm using this on a 1080ti and i confirmed with the mfc that it is only dp and requires an active connection.

    Tried a standard dp to hdmi an it partially worked but would not allow computer to duplicateextend screen

    Though the refresh rate is lowered using this cable instead of native dp at 4k the i54590t is not able to display 4k with any meaningful performance
