The blades definitely stay razor-sharp every time i use them—no more sending my knives off to be sharpened, as i had to with cutco.
My husband sharpens my knives and that block is huge and ugly.
Price
Have a $1000 set of knifes and love them.
At a bit over $200 for the set it's not for the faint of heart financially.
I think the price might be mostly due to the sharpening knife block.

The set comes packaged perfectly with only the most useful components selected.
Competitiveness
I have bought similar sets as gifts recently, and these are far superior to the other ones i have seen.
Switching from my old cutco set to this calphalon knife set was a surprisingly great move, as cutco is a well known brand.

With the tang design the metal part of the knife is fully built into the handle
