Pros & Cons
Pros
Cast iron is great for frying. No more uneven burning of eggs, bacon, etc. Can't wait to try the pizza recipe.
Bought this for a wedding gift for some friends from prague. I've had no problem with it whatsoever. It is heavy, but works great! Camp chef is a great brand!
The camp chef skillets are a big plus over the lodge skillet. The design is very good with spouts at both sides to pour off grease. The lid is a nice option that adds versatility but it almost doubles the weight so plan accordingly!
Cons
It needs a machined bottom. It is listed at 9 lbs. Trying other items yielded the same results.
Highlights
Quality
I was extremely impressed with this skillet and how compressed it is and well made.
Quality seems good, i like the double handle feature on all sizes.
Being a first time cast iron skillet user, i got the seasoning wrong the first few times i tried to do it.
At worst it creates stress points and hurts heating performance on electric ranges and other flat heating surfaces.
Price
I seasoned it twice, and the actual surface and sides, the bottom and outer sides are smooth as anything you can find over the $100.
I don't know what you get by spending twice as much but this one works just fine for me.
Packaging/appearance
It was just put into an amazon box.
Competitiveness
I would compare to lodge or any of the other cast iron companies.
A big plus for the camp chef skillets over the lodge skillets is that the main handle is considerably longer on the camp chef.
