Quality
Good lens for the price, as a beginner i learned a lot about lunar/solar photography, happy with the product.
The lens is brand new as listed, i am happy with the purchase.
I agree with the other reviewer who complained that it doesn't focus well with a low f-stop though.
The images aren't the sharpest, but you can get some nice bokeh with the zoom and if you stand far enough.

The packaging was great as well and i'm enjoying the lens very much.
Still in canon packaging just as described!
Competitiveness
Also, i paid less than $80 for a brand-new lens, so i'd call that a deal any day (especially since it's listed as ~$231).
At that price its worth having some fun with a 300mm tele.

For the moon picture i also needed to a shutter delay to ensure that i didn’t shake the camera when pressing the shutter release

Without image stabilization youll certainly want a tripod to take advantage of it but assuming youre not a pro and not going to go over every image pixel by pixel youre going to be happy with this
