Quality
Really nice camera - small, lightweight, doesnt make any creaking noises when the body is squeezed, sits nicely in your hands.
I shot a couple of rolls with this camera with a 28-135mm canon is lens and got very well exposed, sharp film photos.
The blessing and the curse of a film camera is you can't immediately check your shots -- you have to wait until the film is developed.
The focus screen cannot be swapped out.
Price
It's an affordable way to get your hands on a full-frame camera, which costs about 20 times more for the digital version.

Competitiveness
I also own canon rebel k2 and t2 and canon elan iie, and find a lot of the controls very similar.
The elan cameras are heavier and more solid than the rebel film cameras, the elan ii seems more solid than the elan 7.

In terms of getting a good film photo and choosing between an elan ii or elan 7 a good photographer would get great photos with either one but would do so easier with the elan 7

On a sunny day even with a iso 100 film i tend to overexpose my frames when shooting wide open with the 50l
