Scan and print in mono (a full page) 35 sec, in colour around the same. The downsides are pretty limited, but there are a few.
Still the same cartridges.
It pumps out lab-quality 4×6 glossy ii (sample pack included) sharp, vibrant, and great texture and reflectivity levels. Best quality and glossy photo paper for the glossy vinyl.

I haven't seen the images from a $1000-2000 machine, but this won't disappoint.
Shipping
(also significantly faster, 2+ weeks for the print companies, or 2-day prime; prime won).
The fact that it doesn't ship with a printer cable shouldn't be an issue unless it's your first printer or previously on wifi.
Packaging/appearance
Kit included envelopes and rsvp cards+envelopes, and we printed on everything.
Tired of stocking ink cartridges, i was looking for an ink-tank printer.
Overall unboxing and basic setup was pretty simple to follow but not exactly easy.
Only issue i ran into was printing on the envelopes.
Competitiveness
(fyi - i also highly recommend koala (*premium*) paper: equal to or better than equivalent paper from canon at 50% the price.
Overall the printer does what we want it to do and the price is competitive with a couple print jobs.

Everyday printing is crisp and clear and as others have stated the control buttons and unlit lcd 2 line display is antiquated and difficult to read in less than sunlit rooms

Even an unused cartridge printer would have had the ink dry out or evaporate if untouched for this long

I have been using a bw laser printer and will continue to keep that printer around until it is out of toner

I am hoping that the ink tank printer will have as much capacity as the manufacturer claims
