Pros & Cons
Pros
The optical zoom is 5x, which is not a huge range but not bad either. The digital zoom goes out to 20x, and i was really surprised by how good the image quality is - it produces very usable images at that range. The fast zoom lens has a wide opening t... Read More
With the fast 1. Megapixel camera, the pros outweigh the cons. The rubberized grip is fantastic. The camera is sharp with good color and very handy to carry in a belt pouch.
The canon eos 5d mark iii is a great camera for stills and video. It is very easy to control, from aperture/shutter to flash compensation. It shoots uncompressed raw, but at the same time features great settings for auto point and shoot. I normally us... Read More
The pop up viewfinder is better than expected. The viewfinder really helps when recoding in the public area. With an open pop-up view finder system, be careful of water.
This camera implements the usb-c power delivery standard. It also charges from the usb ports on the laptop. The official word from them is that you need to buy their $190 pd-e1 charger.
Cons
For the price of $899 it's not weather sealed, the zoom is only 5x, the photos are mediocre. Tiny tiny amount of moisture destroys it.

Canon was very slow to focus, caused some missed shots, much noisier, and much less keeper rate.
The af just can't keep up - can't get iti've found the canon g5x ii to be a rather odd duck.
Price
I was originally put off by the price of this camera as it is not cheap.
I see now why it is priced higher, but it's still a commitment if you're on a budget.

Even with a slower lens, the sony kicked the canon to the curb - no competition at all.
The sony's ability to focus in dim light was much better.

But for the price it should have been a new camera with a warranty which i could have received for only a few dollars more directly from canon

My theory was it has a faster lens and a moderately long lens compared to my rx100 va while maintaining the 1 inch sensor
