The windings do get a bit loose but then thats normal because of the motion while working out

I have other smaller dumbbell bars that cause the weights to crush the edges of my hands

The handle is made of steel the grip is rubber but sturdy and the star lock collars are some sort of plasticthey seem somewhat sturdy for plastic but if you are looking for metal collars like i was then this is not the purchase
