If you dont the hoops wont hold the medicine balls very well

The supports that bolt onto the base and the vertical frame arent very well designed they dont fit over one of the attachment bolts for one of the hoops

If you did everything right you had to bend each support at the top ends in order to get them to fit around that one bolt that attaches one hoop to the vertical frame

However if you plan on slamming the ball on a concrete surface i recommend laying a layer of cardboard or something because i slammed the med ball on the concrete and some of the paint started coming off
