My guess is that as the box is shifted and moved around during transit then some of the weight ended up on the handle and the styrofoam surrounding the handle is quite thin and therefore more easily damaged

Its more of a speckle grey hammertone which the pictures do not show well

Im not hung up on the color but dont call something thats grey black then post artificially darkened or poorly exposed pictures
