I currently have the strip in salt water to be extra sure, but i'm fairly confident with the first tests results.
If it turns out to be plated steel, i will update this review with a picture and change the rating.
So far, the dremel test has shown zero signs of sparks, and i went at it to the point where the strip was pretty destroyed to make sure.

Plus theres a review on here from someone showing off nickels magnetic properties thinking its only nickel plated steel thats magnetic

The two methods of testing one of which i have just done on this product and one that is current in progress areusing a dremel with a grinding wheel attached grind at the strip

If you see sparks its plated steel

This is because nickel does not cause sparking when grinded with a dremel or something similar yet steel does

The sanding is to remove what could just be the nickel plating and get to the core material

Once it has sat in the solution for a day if what is underneath the surface is steel it will rust giving you rust spots on the strip and the solution will turn a murky brownish colour
