It is still dangerous enough that kids should not handle it

Works better with softer items the harder the food is the more you have to work to get the blade to cut it

Like tomatoes might be able to slice them on the thickest setting but definitely not the thinner settings

My only criticisms the reasons why i wont give this product five stars are 1 whatever you are trying to slice using the stabilizing piece with the nubs on the inside better fit right in perfectly because otherwise it slips around we encountered this problem a few times before resorting to slicing the potato down to a shorter more manageable length and then placing the stabilizing piece back on it for the rest of the slicing and 2 the handle at the back of the mandoline which creates the angle will slip and fall back straight if there are just so many pounds of pressure put on it creating not only a danger of the user getting their hand cut but also some pretty severe annoyance if the mandolines rubber gripping fails and it collapses flat or if a veggie slice drops on the floor that happened to us thankfully we still had lots of potato slices left but it was still irritating
