I tried and tried to cable without these but it was such a pain used my circular needles and uneven

I used it for fingerling weight gloves and the smallest size was a bit too large

I prefer the u shape as it doesnt get in the way the cable stitches are held on the curve and the needle can be left dangling in frontback of your work without getting in the way of the main needles
