Pros & Cons

Pros

The san mai is razor sharp out of the box. The kraton grips feel great although i could imagine them building up some hot spots with heavy use. Nice grip though.

Tons of videos out there on this one. Impressive out of the box actually as stated by many reviewers. Rarely am i impressed, but this one is beyond expectations.

This is my first blade with a convex edge and i'm in love. The balance is conducive to chopping, hacking and thrusting. I wish it had a flatter edge at the spine.

The trailmaster blade is a sight to behold. I know it's pricey but it’s worth every penny. The only thing i dislike about the knife is the * cordura sheath.

Cold steel sanmai iii trailmaster is made in seki japan, using a laminated blade with a vg1 steel core. Value is on par for price and craftsmanship is worthy of the japan stamp. This trail master is excellently crafted.

I did not see a bad thing to say about the knive, may be the sheath could be improved to make it appear a little more substanti...  Read More

In fact, we cut right into the chicken that night with the trailmaster, and feasted like children on candy during halloween night.

I've heard the quality control of the brand has gone down over the years, mainly with the heat treating.

Pay more for high quality items, you never regret.

Price

The sheath is not as bad as the typical suck you get these days but still is not the greatest considering the price you pay.

Is it overkill, not really for the qualities.

The price is right considering you’ll pay double that if you buy straight from cold steel.

Now you should check out he price difference.

Packaging/appearance

Extremely sharp right out of the box.

Impressive out of the box actually as stated by many reviewers.

Competitiveness

Excellent, the only reason it doesn't get five stars if the gerber (circa 1980 bowie, built as competitor to this) still surpas...  Read More

I carry this for large blade task, a gransfors bruks hatchet for splitting kindling and an esee 4 for smaller finer blade tasks.

I might make a kydex sheath in the future but this one isn't as bad as a lot of the reviews make it sound.

The fallknieven thor is also made in seki japan using a vg10 steel core.
