Not because the panels just fly off willynilly but rather because the fear of the panels flying off willynilly makes me overly cautious as i carry the lantern if i dont have it saran wrapped

But after packing 2 of these away for emergency we found out 15 months later that packing them away with the 8 d batteries in it totally drains all the batteries as it recharges the panel lights

This can add to the weight of it but as the base is more likely to stay still as a base i dont think this is a real factor

First as others have mentioned the item description is a tad misleading as only the 4 panel lights are rechargeable not the base itself which is powered by 8 dcell batteries

With the batteries installed the lantern is considerably heavy probably not suited for any kind of backpacking endeavor

The flashlight function of the panels though functional are impractical and will most likely never be used
