Pros & Cons
Pros
The sheer brilliance of this book makes the hurt of that pathetic movie all that more painful. I like how the prose is laden with all kinds of facts, which is of course absent in the movie. I think matthew mcconaghey would have played him very well as... Read More
Carl sagan is a poet and philosopher as well as a writer and scientist. Contact is an excellent read for all science fiction fans and especially those who like the works of carl sagan. Most of all the physics and astronomy jargons are in sagan's book ... Read More
Cons
The overwhelming good reviews that this book receives is probably because of the name attached to it. I love science - i study optical physics for a living - and this book is one of the most disappointing i have read to date. Pulling apart the pqges m... Read More
The book is very slow and, having already seen the movie, could not force myself to wade through more of the frequent diversions and sidetracks that occur in the beginning of the book. The outline of ideas & controversy is far clearer than contact... Read More
It's about as satisfying as * the top of your head against the inside of your car after you return the ice scraper to the glove compartment. The volume wildly fluctuates for no apparent reason. Aliens send blueprint design plans for a machine without ... Read More
It's too bad carl sagan couldn't have just written a fascinating sci-fi book without critiquing the word of god. There's rather pointless character backstories that should've been cut. Sagan and this book just isn't that.

It's a very curious thought experiment and made me think about it long after i finished the book.
The most interesting subject (in my opinion) touched in the book is about a hypothetical proof that our universe is intelligently designed.
If you enjoyed the movie, you'll love the book, even if it is pretty radically cut apart to fit neatly in a 2 hour window.
