It isn't attached to the inner portion of the mug, so there won't be any breakage from twisting the lid. This is a technique which is well know and nearly habitual for any auto mechanic.

Lid is hard to get in the right place to drink from, if not impossible, unless you're a lefty. Not durable, almost impossible to open one-handed and difficult even then. This freakin' lid is an absolute nightmare.
