It looks like corsair has been incorrectly packaging the ram. The label on the stick says 4gb and not 8gb. I removed one of the dimms and took a look.

The memory excepted it's xmp profile in a asus x99 deluxe board without issue and is currently running at it's rated xmp speed.
1 64 bit,evga gtx980, seasonic platinum-1000 psu, mountainmods u2-ufo case, 8 internal drives, 3 are ssds.
