Pros & Cons
Pros
The craftsman variable speed grinder has a wire wheel instead of a second stone wheel. Sears also conveniently sells several different grit wheels including the buffing wheel for polishing metal. The light is not only great for the grinder, but i also... Read More
It's not too bulky and it gets the job done for my needs. The rests are easily removable as well as the shields. The motor itself seems ok and the safety features, including switch key, are an improvement for the most part; more of a guard around the ... Read More
Cons
The grinder looks like it was repackaged. It was made in china.
The work light is all but useless, if you try to use normal incandescent bulbs. The variable speed feature turned into fixed speed after a very few hours of use, and jammed at the fastest speed. The lamp is worthless because the neck is so loose the v... Read More
Even the plastic water cooling tray fits poorly into its slot and therefore wobbles. First the wire wheel side vibrates excessively. Makes awful sound at higher speeds.
Highlights
Quality
As far as the quality goes, mine is solid - the motor is plenty powerful and the adjustable speed makes it versatile.
I have to tell you, this is far more tool than i had expected to get for the price and i am very happy with the result.
Makes annoying sound when running, and did not come with the 'quick release' for changing the wheels, like it said it did.
I bought a cheap grinder from hf, got it home and was very disappointed.
Price
At the time of this review, the price is nearly twice what i paid for the unit.
Packaging/appearance
Quick assembly, works fine right out of the box.
Had to drill new bolt holes in the stand.
Competitiveness
I've had mine for close to 10 years and it still runs like a champ.
Great product, i bought from sears, because of the price difference.

I also think this unit benefits from anchoring to a work surface since its weight isnt enough to hold it in place when you really get your grinding action on
