The problem a common one with many compressors and easily overlooked turned out to be a corroded check valve on the tank allowing pressure to escape and backfeed out where the pump and pressure switch connect

This replacement was identical to the oem unit had thread sealant on it and fit exactly as the original did which meant the hard lines hooked right back up just as they came off
