Make sure the lid is on the right way round else it wont allow the unit to start

There is a spring loaded mechanism inside the handle which activates a switch to allow the unit to turn on

I tried to chop 12 onion it didnt really work

Dont return the product saying it doesnt work unless youve tested switching the lid into the handle and let it lock
