I dampen it with water and fingertip to moisten it and sometimes rub a little to loosen the edges

I take aspirin as a blood thinner and these stop the bleeding almost immediately

Otherwise the pad sticks to the wound and has to be soaked off under sterile conditions to prevent renewed bleeding
