Pros & Cons
Pros
Hitch is really nice and fit my 2010 outback perfectly. Fit like a glove on a 2011 outback. Outback installation requires minor cutting to the frame of your vehicle! My car is a subaru 2012 outback 3.
The only holes you have to drill from the bottom are the forward-most ones, because there is nothing pre-drilled for them. Enlarging the access holes is the hardest part. This allows fishing the bolts in from the rear rather than drilling r very large... Read More
Support the exhaust system with cribbing or some kind of post system. Lubricate the rubber exhaust hangers.
The hitch is solid and sturdy. The welds and construction look solid. Strong and relatively easy to install. Solid construction and looks discrete.
Fit and finish is excellent and looks like a factory piece and hugs my bumper perfectly. I expect it to serve my needs bike rack and light towing. My only gripe is that the curt insert for the neck fits a little loose.
Cons
This hitch is not appropriate for the 2015 outback. The rubber exhaust hanger is too close to the side of the hitch causing an awful exhaust rattle. Re installing the muffler is quite difficult without removing it from the exhaust pipe.
Highlights
Quality
Excellent hitch, love the tubular construction as opposed to square iron.
Amazing construction and a fairly easy installation.
Get yourself a 10mm socket, 3/4" socket with an extension, a breaker bar and most importantly:1" step drill bit!
Drilled out the hitch bolt holes to 1/2 inch.
Price
) and had it installed for under $100.
All in all, it’s a great value at $150.
Fyi, i did get a quote to have a shop install this and it was $200.
I had it installed at my local muffler shop for $50.
Shipping
It's exactly what i ordered and it was here two days after i ordered it very happy with the purchase
The shipping box had only some paper over the hitch.
I’m sure if i did a second one i could get it done significantly quicker.
Packaging/appearance
Looks amazing on my 2010 subaru outback!
Packaging could have been better but hardware pack was taped to hitch.
I was not impressed with the packaging on how it was shipped.
Competitiveness
I used the factoru subaru method of removing the rear bumper.
Had our mechanic install and still paid less than big-name brand.
Same thing goes for the curt website, it now lists a different part # than this one.
The curve tube makes it looked as subaru option hitch.
