The d’addario exl280s have a bright, barking tone, which are well suited to use with my trace elliot elf rig. The 30' scale makes chords very comfortable and the sound is very distinctly different from a guitar, i'd say much rounder.
Tuned an octave above the standard range of the bass, when installed, your instrument assumes a more complementary, contrapuntal role.
