The blade is ridiculously sharp when if first comes, in fact i cut into the actual cutting board on accident on my first slice.

A lot of money for a paring knife, regardless of the steel it's made of.
You are paying for an awesome looking knife.
I've purchased entire sets of damascus steel blades that were equally good for less than the cost of this one knife.
Now typically when you get your first knife you don't get something expensive like this.
Packaging/appearance
I get the package, and well - props to the company; the packaging for this is really nice.
The box this comes in has a printed paperboard sleeve you slide off, then you have the matte-finish printed magnetic lid box with no pull.

Right out the package you can tell it's high quality.
