Smooth, no snags or splinters.
They are bundled in sections of 50 sticks each. I love that they're bundled into smaller quantities so that all 1000 aren't just rattling around. They come in wrapped bundles instead of having just 1000 loose sticks.

These popsicle sticks are terrible. I do not recommend anyone purchasing for serious craft projects.
