Pros

The magnifica grinds, tamps, and expresses internally. No clogs in grinder whatsoever. The crema is thick and flavorful, and it stays around for as long as your coffee is warm. Starbuck's is a great name for a coffee maker.

The water reservoir slides out easily, and has a well-designed fill hole that makes it easy to refill without spilling. Little pucks deposit into an easy to reach compartment behind the drainer. The components are dishwasher safe.

Keep the o-ring lubricated to allow easy reassembly of wand. Instead of the steam nozzle being an open wand, this wand has a tube that covers the steam nozzel.

Newer machine is noisier than the first, and the cup warmer area doesn't warm cups like the first machine did. Changing the grind setting has 0 effect4. The bean hold is too shallow so the beans don't always siphon into the grinder.

The machine primes itself when heating up and runs hot water through the hoses. Very small water reservoir - feels like that every other time i use the machine, i need to refill it with water.

Right out of the box, without having made any adjustments to grind or temperature, the quality of the espresso was very good.

We've been delighted with the delonghi magnifica xs.

Overall i am impressed with the thoughtfulness of the design, both in form and function.

Price

The price of admission seems reasonable to us, especially considering the costs of purchasing these drinks directly from a barista.

This is just as fast but a far better (and cheaper) cup of coffee!

We make latte's every morning (i use a separate foamer).

There's even a water-hardness test kit included, so you can program the machine to prompt for a descaling cycle at appropriate intervals.

I had even descaled the machine one time even though i have soft water and the machine did not request a descaling.
