There is no way to completely not use the intel chip and only use the nvidea card

I assume they did this to extend battery life but lets face it if youve got a 17 alienware you didnt buy it to carry on a plane with you battery life is not really the reason for having this beast

There are drawbacks of having the intel chip at all the biggest of which seems to be that the hdmi port is dedicated to the intel chip so if im using an external hdmi display and i want to play a game which wants to use the nvidea gpu everything goes bonky and it doesnt work

Ive since learned but havent tested that the thunderbolt output may be tied directly to the nvidea gpu so if i get an hdmi adapter for it i may be able to do it that way but since i dont have that adapter yet im annoyed that i cant use an external display

If they simply had a way of disabling the intel display completely if you dont care about battery life or when its plugged in then this would be 5 stars

You have to run the soundblaster control app and manually switch them

The cards just werent enough to match my desktop and it would get so hot it would start to burn you if you had it on your lap while the fans would become really loud

Plus while they tried hard with the aluminum casing to try and dissipate the heat it just wasnt as good as it and the video cards would cook and mobile video cards dont depreciate much in value so theyre very expensive to replace
