The sound is a nice muffled fan hum. No issues, workhorse, buy it if you want something quieter with good controls. It's about as loud as the ones from soleus and friedrich. While running at maximum, the unit is relatively quiet.

The delonghi dehumidifier has a timer and humidistat which allow you to set it to perform at certain times and to certain levels. It lets me select a specific humidity anywhere from 30% to 80%, in 5%-increments.

This delonghi compares favorably to them. It seems to work just as well. This is a definite recommend.
