Pros & Cons
Pros
Dirt is what does it. I use a stiff brush and scrub the dirt out of my rough lumber (which is always dirty) before planing. It's a 4 nozzle, so buy a reducer couplling if your dust system is 2-1/2. Dust collection port works really well with my 2 hp g... Read More
The delta 22-580 is a 12 1/2 inch benchtop planer. The planer still operates as new and still produces a great finish. I prefer using this planer rather than my 12 rockwell stationary machine.
This bench top tool does a superb job and is easy to use. The controls are reassuringly solid and clearly marked. It has been a real time/material saver and asset to me.
Cutting height indicator is a plastic measuring tape that reels in and out of a spool like a carpentor's tape. Depth stop worked like a charm for repeatable cuts between runs. Blade zero is great feature.
I hope this proves useful in the event some reader runs across this same problem. Amazon customer service is fantastic. I really like that it comes with an instructional video.
Cons
If you have any thoughts of planing rough cut lumber much less hardwood lumber, either bring it to a local mill or buy a proper planer. Fortunately the local retailer has a amicable return policy and i soon had it exchanged for an identical replacemen... Read More

Quality
Purchased this item over four years ago, is at first hard to handle, but once you get the hang of it, does impeccable job planing wood.
The planer perfomed like a champ, no tear out, bo snipe great finish at both speeds and dimensionally within 5 thou of my target thickness.
I have used it for over a year and it has not failed to produce a very good quality, finished board.

Price
All in all a great planer for the money.
I would recomened it for the price.
Com you will pay $349 plus about $13.
I checked the reviews and accounted for costs.
Shipping
) and amazon got me a replacement handle in about 4 days after my request, no questions asked.
The delta arrived very promptly from amazon and in good shape.
At least they are providing them at no charge but there is an estimated 45 day wait from the time they ordered them from me to ... Read More
Tried fast and slow with no real difference.
Packaging/appearance
Checked in the packaging and inside the machine.
Unpacking and setup instructions are out of order.
The unit came complete to use out of the box without having to buy expensive accessories (infeed and outfeed tables); 2.
Competitiveness
At the time i bought it, i was looking at several brands and my choice came down to the delta and dewalt.
Today, it's only real competition in this category is the dewalt.
I felt the same way about the delta 13", however the delta reviewed better than the dewalt did.
The delta also appeared to have better reviews, at least fewer complaints about chipping knives.
