They are mesh but have a liner. The only weakness is the waist tie, that is comparable to a gift package ribbon. Bonus is the secure phone pocket and towel loop.

They fall wonky, have crooked seams, looks cheap and wrinkle! My spouse has a 46 waist and these are way too tight. Maybe it's my child bearing hips that make these shorts bunch at the *. There is a tear on the bottom of the inseam.
