Adding wiring for a switch by the stairs would have been a decent amount of work so i opted to try this

Turning them on is never an issue but to turn them off i need to remove the switch from the wall slides right off and take a few steps up the stairs to get within range

Not a huge deal since i only need lights up there once in a while but be aware of this if you will be using the switch regularly as you may want to try something else

The internal part inside the wall had to be reset
