I cut little windows into the plastic at either end of the axle where the bearing balls are and sloppily shoved in some bicycle grease from a squeeze tube

It works but making pedals with both no lubrication and no way to provide it is pretty absentminded

The pedals do not have grooves or spikes so you can quickly get your feet on the ground when the bike starts to slip on the ice
