They look sporty and retro and very 1985 ymca. My feeling is it contributes to less air resistance effort.
If you're new to pickleball, and are dabbling, this is a great starter set. The wooden paddles provide a nice tok! Very happy with this product as a beginner.
Excellent raquets and balls. Handgrips seem to be made of a smooth silicone polymer, similar to one i saw on my mom's old yonex racquet. The racquets are heavier than their graphite counterparts.

Wood is not a good idea for a paddle.

Paddles are lightweight compared to others and the grips are a bit short so i would recommend for children starting out
