The pad has 3 snap fastenings, although due to it being weighted you don't actually need to fasten them. It heats up very quickly, the default start-up temperature for me was just about right. Heats quickly and evenly.

There are options on the control unit for heat and timing – it does shut down automatically after 90 minutes of use so you will need to start the timer again if you need it on longer than this
