We have always used sony/panasonic eneloop rechargeable batteries in it.
I even bought a $27 maglite mini recently that used aa batteries, and it too turned out to be a piece of junk.
The brightness is comparable to a maglite mini pro+ .

It seems many people like this flashlight just as i do but they end up having the flickering problem after a while

After taking the screws out of the light and prying the thing slightly apart i noticed inside that a black wire was no longer connected to the spring base that is the solder snapped off
