You *may* hear it if you move it around after first powering up, but once the caps become fully charged, i can no longer hear any steps.
There is a very and i mean very minimal hssing sound when nothing is playing .
Price
For the price, this is a very solid deal.
I wasted a ton of money on cheap 10-20 dollar headphone amps that didn't do anything, i wish i spent a little more and just got this one.
For less than $40, you get a very solid box with an anodized faux gold front plate and knob that looks great.
It sounds quite good for the money.
Competitiveness
I'm comparing this to four-figure headphone amps.
Despite its size, the u3 packs a punch and rivals the performance of larger, more expensive amps.
For the sake of comparison, i chose my schitt magni 3+ as the benchmark.

Neither unit has an eq or tone adjustment so its a fair comparison for what they could generate i played some guitar into both units and some demos i am working on and some streamed music sources

The u10 is noticeably better in all applications except that if you wanted to accurately mix sound the 34warming34 of the u10 might leave the original mix sounding flatter than without

Only the u3 included a power adapter both require a slightly larger pin than the typical 2

Stock ic had little musical ambience and its higher gain made me use bottom ccw part of the volume control
